|
Answer» Quote Go back there & select the 'WEB' tab. Is there any WEB tab in XP I have XP Pro and there's no web tab The WEB tab is a w2k thing, looking at the picture DL65 put up I guess xp doesn't have it. Anyway, I clicked on a checkbox in mine & it put up the left hand thingie the same as mouse99's. The box I ticked to create the problem was 'Show Web content on my Active Desktop' (I'm booting a spare xp machine as I type)yeah sure, w2k thing. thanks.I couldn't FIND it on the xp machine either, it's not my fault you are stuck with a lesser OS. LOL!Quote I couldn't find it on the xp machine either, it's not my fault you are stuck with a lesser OS. LOL! lol Did you forget? I am W2k -er also. XP would never ENTER my life... but it was drivers Fed... How much I miss 2k...Quote Sorry, I guess I wasn't specific enough. Follow this: lol nice print sreens, made by yourself?First, I'm really sorry for dragging this on so....I was looking around some Microsoft site and found a "Task Manager" capability for easy access to the web and current ITEMS and the bar was exactly like mine. It was a component of Windows XP (I have home edition) but in my reading it didn't tell you anything about displaying it or removing it from the screen...only about it being available and how to use it. And certainly not how to get rid of it or how I brought it up in the first place. But, the "blue bar" was identical. So, I've identified it finally, but to no avail. Maybe, once identified, someone uses it and can give me more info. Thanks, in advance.mouse99pa..... Ok , I received you Email ....and I d/l the MSN toolbar and installed it ...... And yes its as you described .......So I removed it ......To remove it .......Click START / CONTROL PANEL / ADDorRemove programs .......when the list populates ....scroll down until you see MSN SEARCH TOOLBAR ......then left click it and it will become hilited .....then move over to the right and click on remove ......and presto ...it will be removed and hopefully you will be back to the way it was before . let us know how you make out . dl65 I don't have MSN Search Toolbar on my list For a minute there, I was really EXCITED. But...no go. My son has promised that tonight he will work on it and if he manages to get it off....I certainly will let you all know how he did it....if I can understand it and can relay it in a way it makes sense. It this the sucker? As you say, Win2K rules!I got it fixed....Hooray.....I cannot believe it!! I can see my whole desktop. This was the solution. To remove the common tasks pane from your desktop: Download http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/XP_CommonTasks.zip and save it to your hard drive. Locate and double-click the file you just saved and extract XP_CommonTasks.exe. Double click XP_CommonTasks.exe to run the utility. You will need to log off/log on or reboot for the change to take effect. There is no install/uninstall. Simply delete the EXE file when done to remove it. ....once I opened the Common Tasks file, it said there was an error in it .... did I want to repair it? I said "Yes" and then it said to restart the computer... and "voila!!" No more blue bar. Yippee. Forgive me...I am so happy to see that sucker outta here. Thank you so much for all your help. EVERYONE has been great. God Bless you all and Happy New Year to each of you. strange |
