Solve : Blue screen of death Fatal Error c000021a?

Answer»

Hello all !!!!

Hope things are well.

My daughters HP Pavilion Entertainment PC Running Vista

Notebook Model - dv5 notebook
system board - 30f2
Processor type - amd turion x2 dual core MOBIL rm-70
Processor speed - 2000 mhz
total memory - 3072 mb
bios ver - f.07

When I try to start the pc I get the blue screen of death fatal error c000021a. I cannot get it to finish a boot even in safe mode.
I looked up the error code and there is a fix for it but you have to be able to bring up your pc, which I Can't. I copied the fix to a disk but it's not recognized. I also tried rebooting from last known GOOD boot, to no avail.

HELP !!!

Thanks in ADVANCE,
MP.1) I've moved this to an appropriate forum.

2) What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?

3) Do you have a vista cd?Thanks wasn't sure where it belonged "ASSUMING" this was caused by a virus.

According to my daughter nothing at all is new. I know there is no new hardware because I would have been involved and she hasn't downloaded any new software.

I do not have a vista cd I don't think it came with one but I will look again.

All i found is 2 Gateway sys restoration cds and a Windows 98 cd.Does the system have a restore partition? We may end up needing it.

I can walk you through a ram test and a disk check, but I doubt either is the cause of your problem (although it is possible). If they don't work and if you don't have a Vista cd the only other option I can think of is to restore an image if you've been using disc imaging software (as you always should) or a factory restore if there is a restore partition or disc.No sys partition and no disk. I haven't been imaging either.

I am running a full hard drive test, 63% complete, don't think I will get any errors either.

Last resort is a factory restore ? Not sure I've seen that option but we can try anything at this point.

THANKS AGAIN.You're welcome.
