Solve : Blue screen of death help.?

Answer»

Ok so last night, I left my gateway laptop on to defrag it. Woke up this morning, opened it up..it was at the login screen, so I thought ok let me TYPE in my password. As soon as I hit a key, it went BLUE screen of death on me (for the first time, fairly new laptop). It just had the error messags as usual and said to restart the computer if that was the first time it had happened. Now, when I try to turn on the laptop, it turns on, FAN keeps going doesn't stop, and nothing ever displays on the screen.
I would appreciate any tips/help I could get.
Let me try to add some specs as I remember them:
Anti-virus: Kaspersky internet security 2009
RAM: 2GB
Processor: intel core 2 @ 1.86 ghz or something close to that
Video card: Some integrated chipset..
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32 - Bit SP1
Also, yes I have a windows CD

Sincerely,
TylerSorry to double post, as I have tried to boot from my windows copy....still nothing happens.
Almost forgot, I may have updated a lot of drivers yesterday which COULD have caused this. If I did, any possible solutions? Can you try a System Restore back to a few DAYS before the driver installs ? ?
It would be helpful to post the BSOD message entirely.

Any issues prior to this ? ?I would have written down the error message, but seeing as it was the first time i got the BSOD..i didn't think anything of it at the time.
Also, how can i restore it if nothing displays on the screen..its as if the screen is dead, except for the fact that it worked 10 seconds before i did the restart
No issues prior to this, that's why I think it is extremely odd and I may end up blowing all of my christmas money at *censored* geeksquad when the solution is more than likely simple. So you don't even see the POST info at bootup ? ?
Any beeps ? ?

Can you get into setup at all ?
What happened when you tried to boot to the XP CD ?Quote from: patio on December 26, 2008, 01:37:51 PM

No beeps...just the fan.
No post info because I SAID THE SCREEN PRETTY MUCH DOESN'T COME ON.
No I can't get into setup.
Not XP, vista, and i inserted...it made some noise like it was reading it but it still will not display on the screen. No need to shout...the screen not coming on doesn't always rule out the setup info being seen which would eliminate a few things...

Is this machine still under warranty ? ?
If so i would be excising it...Quote from: patio on December 26, 2008, 02:04:39 PM

Lets just say its one of those computers that you buy from HSN, and my parents have had recent money shortage making it a lower priority to be paid for.I believe they still have to honor the Warranty...Quote from: patio on December 26, 2008, 02:14:07 PM

If it only had a warranty.
Updates: Tried booting without RAM, booting without the hard disk, and swapping around the RAM. Screen will still not display anything, but the laptop DOES turn on.
