Solve : Blue Screen on XP  - attempt to execute?

Answer»

Good day all,

I would appreciate some help with a Blue Screen on windows XP Pro SP2 that generates an error "attempt to executenon-executable memory" STOP 0X000000FC with various addresses in brackets afterwards - the latter CHANGES every crash. I have used MSconfig to start in DIAGNOSTIC mode and the problem goes away. Otherwise, it is almost like the computer is on a timer and crashes every 20 minutes or so, even when not being used. Event log shows nothing of import as far as I can tell. I have googled and found that the error relates to Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature of SP2 which I hesitate to turn off. The computer is a new clone, Intel board, Dupli disk IDE drive setup, Pentium D320, 2 Gig RAM. I have run Pest Patrol with no results. Help!!!! Thanks.

Post the complete error message...Complete message is:
an attempt was made to executenon-executable memory
STOP 0x000000FC (0xAE28C95C,0x6512F963,0xAE28C8C8,0x00000000)

Because of the timing of the crashes, I have been wodering about the Dupli disk IDE drive setup though it seems to be working OK.

Thanks for the helpIs this what you mean by Duplidisk? Hardly a glowing review.

http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=29330Easy way to troubleshoot it is to uninstall the Duplidisk and see if it still does it.Yes, that is similar to mine but I do not have the SATA version - EIDE one which plugs into PCI. I have disconnected it and problem persists. I have managed to KEEP it running once for 12 hours with the card in but only one drive hooked to it, but it crashed upon reboot. I believe I will try a windows XP Pro repair install to see if it helps though I have never had any success with repair in the past on the many times I tried it. MEANWHILE, thanks for your input.
