Solve : boot disk problem?

Answer»

hey i just PICKED up an old cpu at an auction today and have been trying to get it to run. sticker on the machine says it has windows 95 but i cannot get it to start. after i start up the boot disk it STAYS verifying DMI pool data... then says Starting Windows 95... then it goes to A:/

ive tryed entering sys c: and format c: but it isnt making any progress..

if i should be doing something else please tell me Have you looked on the net for dos commands, and have you got the latest dos version?no clue on much about this computer as i just got it...all i know is it is fairly old around 1997 and was sold obviously because it cannot load windows...got information from this website to make a boot disk on a floppy and use it to reinstall windows and get it working. when i reset it at A:/ it doesnt change anything

edit: if i start up computer without boot disk inside at verifying DMI pool data it just goes to a screen saying "Press a KEY to reboot" at the top left hand cornerWhat OS do you want on this machine ? If Win98 do you have a Win98 CD to do a clean install ? ?

Any machine i pick up second hand or at a garage sale etc. i don't EXPECT to run...period.
That's why they are at auction or garage sales.

Post back with more details on what you want to do with the machine and we'll go from there.yea i'd like to put windows 98 on it and i found a couple of legit windows 98 CDsIf it is Win98SE that CD should be BOOTABLE...
If not travel to Bootdisk and grab a Win98 bootdisk...you want the one that includes CDRom support.
Extract the file to a clean floppy and boot up with it.
You should then be able to run setup from the CD drive.
