Answer» Hi,
I have an old desktop (1995). It's running W95a. There are no boot options in the BIOS and I am unable to boot from either (a) FLOPPY or (b) CD ROM on restart so I can't now make CHANGES before getting into Windows.
Have tried pressing a keyboard button to prompt but it just beeps. Any ideas?
Thanks, TimAny bootable floppy should boot automatically on that MACHINE... Bootdisk.com is a good source. What are you trying to do ? ?Basically, I just want to run a floppy or cd disk before it gets into Windows.
It's an AST 812 from 1995 and the person I got it from had a funny way of getting it to boot from floppy\cdr which I forgot...
Isn't there a shortcut or special key to prompt the system into running a floppy or cdr?
I'm not sure how to get a free BIOS update for this spec (if it needs it - my system is rejecting most external scans etc. probably because it is W95a), but I'll have to get it to recognise my floppy or cdr before Windows first...If you flash the BIOS you risk creating a LARGE paperweight you won't be able to use... You have been warned. As patio said, any bootable floppy will boot. What's gonna be on that floppy? BIOS update is not recommended, unless it's necessary for some SERIOUS reason.
