Solve : Boot up freezes?

Answer»

Ok I have a 500gig external USB hard drive that worked fine after plugging it in.  However, if I reboot it will freeze when trying to start up.  If I unplug it it stays frozen.  But if I restart and unplug the usb then it will load and once it gets to the page that says windows I can replug it in and it will continue loading.  It is almost as if my computer is searching for the windows load on the USB harddrive instead of the harddrive on the computer where it is installed.  I have obviously found a way around my problem, but more of a pain in the but to have to GO through this ROUTINE everytime to just get my computer to restart.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thank you.In the BIOS check and see which device is set to boot first.  Let US know.Sorry but how do I do that?At boot time you will see a message on screen "Press Delete  or some other key to Enter Setup...
Press that key next boot and you will be in the BIOS...

NOTE: Do not change anything you are unsure of....
NOTE #2 This all happens before you see the XP screen.

Question: What's on this external drive ? ?Ok hopefully this is what you are looking for

Quick Boot: Enabled
1st Boot device: CD/DVD-0
2nd Boot device: IDE-0
3rd Boot Device: Disabled.Yep...NICE job.

Question: What's on this external drive ? ?
Also is externally powered thru AC or just a USB connection ? ?Sorry I forgot to answer that question.  But whatever comes on it when I bought it.  I bought a WD IBOOK.  The only thing I personally have put on it is movies.  I have ripped a view to view later, but thats it.  And it is connected with a USB cord, but powered through AC.Did you install the iBook software ? ?
I hope not...
There are issues.

In the meantime try it on another USB port...preferably a rear one...Yes I did install the software.  Shows how much a newbie I am.  What are the probs?  Do you think that is possibly it?
