I have a HP laptop with Win Vista on it , it was working fine last time I used it came home and went to use it and it starts up and goes to the last stage of windows update ...message says configuring UPDATES stage 3 of 3 0% complete Do not turn off your computer , then it just sits there with the lil icon spining around and after a few mins reboots and does same thing I have left it on and thats all it does over and over again any one have any ideas on what I can do to correct this , ThanksHi,
Try to reboot your machine and press F8, You will be presented with different options and one options is "Last Known Good Configuration". Select "Last Known Good Configuration" and hit Enter. Your system will restart and those updates will be reverted. You may have to install those updates again later.or try to boot in safe mode You need to boot to a Vista DVD. If you don't have one, you can download a Vista recovery disk here: HTTP://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/
Use an image burning program to burn the file to a disk. If you don't have image burning SOFTWARE ImgBurn is a good program for this task. You can download it here: http://www.imgburn.com/
If you're not sure how to burn the disk, you can find a GUIDE for burning the image here: http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/G/Burning+ISO+Images+with+ImgBurn
Now boot to the disk and choose Command Prompt from the list of recovery options. At the C prompt type: cd Windows\WinSXS and press enter.
Then type: del pending.xml and press enter.
Restart the computer and boot to the hard drive. Same problem?
