Answer» OK so I did a brand new XP INSTALL..... new partion and everyone booted up < 5 times My problem is windows XP has the windows classic look. very plain and square. windows 95 look to it. Once and a while (twice) it says that a certain file (same one) has been recovered successfully. When the desktop first shows up. My thoughts It's either Hardware or drivers I used Original Driver CD for motherboard. Mostly integrated things. This Problem STARTED after i installed drivers and added second ram chip. Ram is the same type, speed, brand, Identical. (were tested and good but can try with a suggested program) Possible Hardware causing it. (what i think might be it) Motherboard ----- unknown (using it's integrated Graphics) Memory ----- 1024 MB (512 used for install)(WOULD not work with both chips in) Hard Drive ----- Like 10 gig or something (old but ran Linux fine) Know this is good but always good to have all info:) Processor ----- AMD 2.2 GHZ sound-Integrated ethernet-IntegratedWhat type of XP CD was this ? ? Use it to create a bootable CD/Floppy and run the complete test. This will tell you if it's the hard drive. I'd also DLoad and run MemTest....let it run a few hours. Any errors at all means it is a RAM issue. If you get errors power down and run 1 STICK at a time to determine which is bad. After that i'd borrow a PSU of the same or greater wattage and swap it in there. This is another possible culprit as well.OK thank you My power SUPPLY unit is like 500watts i don't think i need that much for my machine it doesn't have that much plugged in. 350 watts should run fine it plugs into motho cd rom and hard drive.... i will run mem test any programs you suggest? and hard drive maybe be last thing i check it ran linux fine..... with 1 mem stick in.MemTest

XP view and Windows Classic look have nothing to do with Display Properties.

I remember why this comp was giving me problems. Cause it's doing it again.
1. Press power button
2. Goes through Bios start up
3. Comes to windows XP screen with blue bar scrolling across.
This where it goes Bad

DLoad and run the diagnostics from your HDD manuf. site...Free.
Use it to create a bootable CD/Floppy and run the complete test.
This will tell you if it's the hard drive.
I'd also DLoad and run MemTest....let it run a few hours.
Any errors at all means it is a RAM issue. If you get errors power down and run 1 STICK at a time to determine which is bad.
After that i'd borrow a PSU of the same or greater wattage and swap it in there. This is another possible culprit as well.OK thank you
