Solve : Bootable cd/floppy??

Answer»

Is it possible to make a bootable disk that runs windows 95/98, provided i have an install disk and COA?Are you running 95/98? If so then a floppy is probably way to go as BIOS may (or may not) support a change to CD as first boot option.

The most basic boot back then was IIRC command.com to get you into DOS. Then include the ''usual'' tools.

"COA" - not with you - tho maybe should beSo all you have to do is copy some files to a disk? If so, then which files do i need to copy? You haven't confirmed you are running 95/98 but I am thinking you are?

I cannot recall the route to do this but seem to REMEMBER there was a facility within that would make you a boot disk and add all the NECESSARY files - well, a boot to ''c'' prompt anyways.

I have a copy of DOS 6.22 on one of my servers - the three floppy set of files in a zip - from that you can copy to three floppies. The first disk will act as a boot to get in. If you want that I will let you know the url if you message me.Sorry. I forgot to mention that i have win 98. I just found out my floppy drive aint WORKING. .Hmmm - well, is that a faulty floppy drive or does the system not ''see'' it?

If it shows in device manager and present as an "A" drive then a new one could be worth getting - they are very cheap these days.
Not sure what it is that you need to do, after you boot from floppy or CD.
But, have a look around here: www.bootdisk.com .

You've said your floppy drive doesn't work - much of what is on that site is for making bootable floppies, but I think there are also files for making bootable CDs. Maybe that would help you.ChrisXPPro: The FDD appears windows just says 'A: drive not ready' or something like that. Jameco sells FDDs for ten bucks. WillyW: Thanks for the link.UPDATE: I used Ubuntu to make a FAT16 500 MB partition. Then I used the built in formating tool (windows 98) to 'Copy System Files' (to the new partition, D drive.) Then I copied WIN.COM to D drive. Then I made NEEDED changes to BOOT.INI. I rebooted and selected the new option, D:. It said somthing about a missing file. I booted win 98, used Find, and copied the missing file. Then, when I rebooted into D:, it said that HAL.DLL was missing. I cant find it. Please help me.Just on the off chance I searched in an old CD from way back - which had all my win files backed up from '95 days. No dll of that name so drew a blank I'm afraid.

Maybe someone else can help - or, have you tried a google search on the filename.?
