Solve : Bootable CD for Windows XP? |
|
Answer» Mjy DAUGHTER has a fairly new Sony Viao desktop computer. She had Infected it with a boot sector virus. I tried many PROGRAMS to remove the virus with no luck. I ended up have to USE a program called DBAN to wipe the hard drive. In the process of wiping the hard drive apparently it erased the boot sector of the hard drive also. In the past on other computers I have been able to use a bootable floppy disk for any version of windows and then Install Windows XP. This computer does not have a floppy disk drive. I have been trying to make a bootable CD rom or a bootable flash drive to get the Installation process started, I have found many programs and tried but have noft had any luck with a bootable CD or a bootable flash drive. Can anyone help me in LOCATING a bootable CD for Windows XP that is easy for me to useThis solution involves Nero so don't know if it will help. ...In the past on other computers I have been able to use a bootable floppy disk for any version of windows and then Install Windows XP. ...Nope. Not since Windows 95.You can install Windows 2000 and XP - but not later versions - with an MS-DOS boot disk with CD-ROM support (and preferably Smartdrv). The only drawback is you have to use a FAT32 partition. Boot using the MS-DOS floppy, create a FAT partition using FDISK, format it, and then run [CD-ROM drive letter]:\i386\WINNT.exe. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307848 |
