Solve : Bought a USB DVD RW. Can you set up a sendto??

Answer»

I have bought this DVD RW, USB external. I'm testing it out. I'm on an XP Home SP2 box with a 2.2Ghz Celeron and .5GIG RAM with an 80 GIG HDD. My Windows XP is fully patched, all the updates. It shows my CDRW/DVD-ROM when I right CLICK to "send to" but doesn't show the DVD RW. Will Windows XP write directly to this drive? If so, how can I SET it up so the drive appears in the "send to" selection? Thanks. Right click the start button, choose "explore", navigate to the "send to" folder, drag a shortcut to your DVD-RW drive into that folder.
Thanks. I know well enough about how to make a "sendto" entry like that. However what I wanted to know is.... Since WINXP can directly write to the internal CDRW, can I sent WinXP to directly write to my DVDRW? When I did what you suggested and tried to write a file to the drive I got an error message that the disk was read only. Have you tried with a blank CD disk? There is, I believe, no support at all in the inbuilt burning feature for burning DVD media.

Windows XP's built in direct burning feature is called IMAPI and it supports IDE, ATAPI, SCSI, 1394, USB, and USB 2.0, so I don't see why you should not be able to use it, unless there is some specific compatibility problem with the particular brand and model of external drive you are using.

Oh I see! You mean I'd be able to directly write to a CDRW but not to a DVD-RW.... Got it. Thank you. QUOTE from: stevezygote on October 14, 2007, 11:03:12 AM

That is correct.
