Answer» I bought this HP Compaq 6715b today from a local pawn broker. All the personal files and SOFTWARE were wiped clean so I'm supposedly STARTING with a clean install. But the XP Pro operating system is still REGISTERED with Microsoft in the name of the previous owner. How do I change the registration name with Microsoft? How do I change the registration name with Microsoft? Copies of Windows are not licensed to people, they are licensed to machines. It doesn't really matter what the name says, that name is not actually part of any MS database.The registry edit worked fine. Thanks for the link DarkendHeart! Thanks BC! I guess I was thinking there is some form to fill out requiring the owners name when validating a new install of a Windows operating system.
