Answer» When I boot up my PC (windows 98 SECOND edition) it appears to be loading up properly untill it gets to the stage where the screen has my 'wallpaper' on it; just before the desk top icons appear Then, about 3 times out of 4 it will freeze at that stage with a row of bright green vertical lines across the top of the screen, about 1/4 inch tall. Sometimes , however the screen will go blank and then the PC restarts 1 in 5 goes it loads up properly and everthing seems to then be OK.Most of thew S/W has been reloaded and the hard disk changed trying to cure this...Help pleasewhat ram have you got?? does it do it in safe mode f5 key on boot??256m RAM...dont know about safe mode; not tried ittry it in safe mode and type dxdiag in the run box and test for graphics......it will report any faults.....does POINT to graphics on board or card/driver updates run the above command How old is your computer? [glb]Flame[/glb]Computer is about 4 years old ,has had new processor and extra memory last year. Re the video card...how do I find out what sort it is?To find out what kind of video card you have, do this: click start -> run -> type dxdiag in the box -> and when a WINDOW that says DxDIAG pops-up, click on display. This SHOULD tell you all the information that you need... However, PLEASE DO tell us what kind of card you have...
[glb]Flame[/glb]Scan for viruses and reinstall your video drivers. You must try safe-mode to see if it is driver related.
