Solve : Broken XP-Pro?

Answer»

Will try not to be verbose. I created a problem on my XP-Pro machine by starting to create an RAID 0 array on the two identical HD,s and realized that config would distroy all of the data on both drives. Bailed out an am left with a machine boots fine, all programs work fine but I have no MMC , Taskmanager or sound. Is there any hope in salvageing this without distroying everything. Tnx.Do you have a shiny CD that says Microsoft all over it ? ?

If so go to Start/Run and TYPE in SFC /scannow and hit Enter.

If this doesn't work post back and we'll give you the steps for a repair INSTALL...an XP CD is neccessary for this as well.SFC finds no problems. Did not have to replace any files. Have XP-Pro on CD.Good

Repair Install of XP

I suggest printing it out for reference and reading it FIRST especially the Caution notes...

In most cases if followed correctly XP will be back to normal and your programs and data should be intact.

Since a near miss is still fresh in your mind it would be a good time to consider developing a backup strategy.Tnx fr help. Had a great backup system going with Casper. I mirrored the entire C: drive to the D: once a week but blew them both up at the same time with the RAID issue. Tnx.Change your strategy just a tad and burn at least one image a MONTH to CD/DVD...does Casper support this ? ?Yes it does.Slick prog.
