Answer» Win XP Home Edition. I get a Blue Screen of DEATH system shutdown, when I insert any Flash Drive. FD's work on other computers. Scanned for Virus's - Spyware - RootKits - bots. Tried system restore. Now what?What does your event log show as the explaination, and what is the BSoD error message?
This can be cause by a USB Bus power overload ....too much draw on PS or other reasons related to a corrupt driver etc.Can't seem to find anything in the event log related to it. BSoD error message: A problem has been detected & Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
An attempt was made to EXECUTE non-executeable memory. If this is the First time... blah - blah - blah follow these steps.
Check that new HARDWARE or software is properly installed... blah - blah - blah (there is no new hardware or software)

Have you ever been able to successfully use USB Flash Drives on this system (without the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)?Did you try patio's solution?One of the first things I tried... cause it was the easiestCurrent OS: XP Home SP3 USB drives were working fine... last time I tried to access one was approx 5 days ago and SP3 was installed 3 - 4 WEEKS priorThanks to all those that were interested...
Problem resolved by: I found an old SysState backup (6 months old) that I'd stored separately in a "My Documents" folder for just such a possible situation, and forgoten about it. Just goes to show that you shouldn't rely on one form of backup. I only have to update some settings that I've changed since 6 months ago.
