when my laptop starts it flashes the bsod and restarts. i need a recovery disc but did not make one when the cpu was good. what do i do?

Have your model and serial # handy. Most will ship you Recovery CD's for a nominal shipping cost.isn't there somewhere i can down load them? gosh why did ms quit GIVING us os disks?!! retarded! that's what i need. i could do a recovery right?! i bought a new laptop and i already made my discs! loli called hp. got specific recovery discs per s/n. $11. next DAY air. fingers crossed, i hope they work. thanks for the replyGood News...

I suggest burning copies and storing them somewhere safe off-site.oh i'll definately do that! it's an old laptop so no biggie. it does have some info i want off of it though. i went and got a new one. 320gb 3gb ram, 2ghz dual core pentium, VISTA and the works. any suggestions for this vista? i've heard there's problems with it. i don't know really. just got it. got norton with it. on my old one, as soon as i put in pc tools spyware program is when it shut down on me. i'm sure it removed some defective drivers i needed. but why wouldn't last known config work? hopefully the recovery discs will restore it. i'm more concerned with my new one though and any suggestions you might have would be appreciated.

Why PCTools...did you pay for that ? ?yeah i paid for it. ran the FIRST scan and my cpu locked up with the bsod. they said they couldn't do anything for me except renew my subscription for another year for free. so i'm not using them anymore. got norton now on my new one.
