Answer» Hi ,
My PC is going crazy ... I am trying to install windows XP SP3 , and everytime I get a blue screen of death or an error , examples of their messages are :
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Also, once I got an error during installation "rundll32.exe entry point not found " .
I need to know if these errors and BSODs are due to faulty hardware , or what ? if yes , what is it , HD or RAM or what ? BTW the HD is new .
Any advice is highly appreciated . Thanks a lot .Please provide more details about your computer, Make MODEL, type.
Do you have another CD that will boot your computer? For example, one of the many Linux 'Live' CDs that run without a hard drive install.
The install CD may have been damaged. However hardware issues may do this. The RAM may be failing. Or it could be a weak POWER supply unit.
In some cases DUST or dirt inside the CD reader prevents it from reading some parts of the CD. Blow out all the dust with low-pressure air.
How old is the PC? A bad CMOS battery can cause strange things to happen.Hi Geek-9pm,
It's an assembled PC , Intel Processor Pentium D , core 2 Duo , 4 MB cache , 4 GB RAM , Gigabyte MB , It's as old as 2006 . I had mandriva linux installed , it worked fine but also sometimes it gives a QUICK message that disappears before i finish reading it about fatal error in CD module . Well , about the dust , that reminds me , I did blow the dust using blower , before that , the PC would shutdown by itself frequently either during installation or even on Mandriva ... does this ring any bell ?
Yeah. A PC built six years ago may have a lot of dust. To really make sure, you have to check under the motherboard also.
Dust in the Power supply can make if overheat and either turn off or become unstable and make you think something else is wrong.
What I mean is that when the 5 volt and 12 volt lines drop down the drives become less reliable . Also, some digital chips will flop when they should have flipped.
Dusting a PSU is a real chore, You may have to remove it from the computer case so you can open the PSU box and blow it out.
And check the CMOS battery. And try another CD drive.thanks , i will try that and let you know Reinstall the drive with a single RAM module, as one may be faulty and or try another PSU of same or equal wattage.
Quote try another PSU of same or equal wattage.
Got a chucle out of this one.....
