Solve : bugcode_usb_driver error with vista?

Answer»

Hi, I'm new and having a problem. I'm using Windows Vista on a laptop.

It will crash every once in a while with a blue SCREEN and the error will be "BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER". It happened since I got a new external hard DRIVE and I thought that was the problem because I read that error comes from external drives, but it happened when it was unplug so now I have no idea where it's coming from. The only other thing that is plugged in is my charger and my internet so I don't know what to do about it? Also, because my computer has been crashing, it's also been freezing a lot more now and I'll have to restart it in safe mode.

This made be unrelated, but I'm also having a problem with iTunes. Sometimes I open it and it will freeze on the pause button and I'll have to close it and open it again for it to work. I haven't found help on itunes forums, but I think it could have something to do with my computer.

Thanks for any help.Navigate to: C:\Windows\Minidump folder.
If you see any .dmp files, zip all of them, and attach zipped file to your next reply.
It says access denied when I try to make a zip file out of them. Copy those files to some other folder, and then try to zip'em.Here it is. I couldn't fit all the files on there, it's just the first couple, but there's like 100 dmp files. Tell me if you need them all uploaded.

[attachment deleted by admin]I can see all those crashes happened on one day, 2/24/09
Does it mean, they didn't happen before, or after?

Just for the reference (after you answer my question), the dump files list following errors:
BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER, and DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
and the faulting files are: ATSwpDrv.sys, and usbhub.sys.
The first file belongs to AuthenTec Slide Fingerprint Sensor, which I assume, you have on your laptop, right? Built-in, or as an external device?
The second file is regular Windows USB Hub Driver. The crashes are all from that day, but there's a lot more from other days. It just wouldn't let me attach a larger zip file so I just put some of them in the .dmp files in zip file.

I do have Fingerprint Sensor, it's built in to the laptop. I hardly use it THOUGH.

It's not about usage. One of the errors comes from its driver. It doesn't matter, if you use it, or not.
Attach another package of zip files.
Try to give me some recent ones, maybe from DIFFERENT days.
They look like this:
Mini022409-01.dmp
where 022409 is a date - 02-24-09Here's some more recent ones.

edit: It might just be easier to upload all of them and host on a different site:

[attachment deleted by admin]I'll take a look, but again, they're from 2/22, and 2/24. ANYTHING more recent?OK.
Go to Device Manager, then USB Controllers, and uninstall all Hub, and Root controllers.
Restart computer, and they'll be automatically reinstalled.

Go to your computer manufacturer site. Download fresh Fingerprint Sensor driver.
Uninstall current one through Device manager.
Install fresh one. Thanks for your help. It didn't seem to do anything though. At first, I thought it might have fixed it, both of them reinstalled fine. It crashed again with the same error. My computer is also just freezing a lot where the mouse doesn't move a couple times a day. Check C:\Windows\Minidump folder again.
See, if you have some more recent .dmp files, say from March.
If so, zip them, and attach.I have a laptop and I have the same problem with this "bugcode_usb_driver". After restart, I usually have my keyboard turned off and USB interface doesn't work if nothing is connected or if you'll disconnect any devices. I also wonder if this dumping error is somehow connected with another problem that I have - my display sometimes shows only white with black stripes screen and I have to reboot to look for my screen working properly. It usually happens if my laptop goes into sleep mode or when it is turned on.
I read previous messages and decided to attach my windows dump files  if they will help.
Thanks in advance.
