Solve : C: Out of Space?

Answer»

Dear Forum,

When I setup my new computer, I found a procedure for installing Windows that recomended 5G of space for the main partition. I did that, and now I see that I am very near full. The other drive has nothing on it, but it puts all of my program files and user documents on C:. Do I need to somehow direct these files that will keep accumulating, to the other drive, or can I just delete the other one to allow it to keep accumulating things in C:?

Thanks!
Mike
Thats a CRAZY small # for any Windows install...unless it's WIN 98...
Where did you GET this info ? ?From a web search. I guess it could have been old. How much space does it TAKE now?
Can I change it?You may have to re-do it...how large is the HDD ? ?Crazy; it's not even showing the other drive now. I think it is 150G.
MikeI would DEFINITELY start over...
When you say the other drive doesn't show explain what's not showing it...
Does it show in Disk Management ? ?Yea. I think I deleted some files that it needs.
I am preparing to do a reinstall now. Thankfully I didn't have much stuff on this computer yet.
Thanks for your help!
Have a nice night,
Mike

I would definitely start over...

Without the deleted files problem, I'd boot a Parted Magic CD, delete the unused partition, then resize the first partition to take up the whole drive. Whole process should take no more than 10 minute, with no need to reinstalls.

Even with the deleted files, I'd still be inclined to try the above and then run sfc /scannow.
