Answer» Hello
I have a Canon PowerShot A40 (compatible with XP but not Win 7) and have downloaded the latest drivers from the Canon site, but I cannot see any connection to the camera from the PC (there is no icon under My COMPUTER, and nothing in the Scanners and Cameras folder in the Control Panel.
The cable connecting the camera and PC is brand new (never before used), and the camera is switched on (I can see photos in the viewfinder).
What could be wrong, please?
Thank you.
Forgive a silly question, but after downloading the driver did you install it (your post isn't clear on that point)?
Is it a usb connection? When you connect the camera to the computer do you hear a "recognition" sound and / or see a balloon acknowledging that a device has been connected?Hello Allan
Yes, the driver has been installed: I tried to install it again, but the system ADVISED me that it had already been installed.
Yes, it is a USB cable and I can hear a sound after connecting the cable to the PC tower and then turning the camera itself on (no balloon on screen, though).
Thanks for your your assistance.

Did you also install the Canon software ? ?
Does it show up in Disk Management as a Mass Storage Device ? ?Hello Allan
No, I haven't installed the Canon software again (I will need to look for the disk).
I have checked Disk Management (please see attached|) and can see nothing there.
