Solve : Can get connected but can't access the Internet!!?

Answer»

Hi

I have a HP Compaq nx6310 operating with Windoes XP and which has service pack 1. I have this linked to my Netgea router via a Devolo dLAN device using an ethernet cable. The screen shows that I have a Local Area Connection with a speed of 100Mbps. I have 'pinged' my DNS Server and got 0% losses and an avergae of 3ms speed for 4 packets sent.
But I cannot access the Internet ALTHOUGH I have gone through all the property tick boxes I can thing of.

Any suggestions about how I overcome this problem?

I hope to hear from anyone soon.

Cheers

Maurice Maurice, in the system icon tray (down by your computer's clock in the bottom right hand corner) you'll see your network icon showing that you're connected to something.

If you mouse-over that icon - does it say

"This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be ABLE to access the internet or some network resources"

??Hello

That icon says I am connected,a t 100Mbps, and I have succesfully pinged my DNS server at work. But since my initial query I have looked at this PC some more and got a few more details. It seems somewhere in the bowels of my IE7 System the Internet is Not Available!!

If you have any useful suggestions that would be great.

Cheers

If im reading that correctly - you're saying there's something wrong with the Internet Explorer 7 SETTINGS?

To help me help you

What does your IE7 display when you try to load a website.

Example: if you type in www.google.com to your address bar, what does IE7 kick back at you?Hello

If I put any address in IE it comes back with IE cannot display the webpage.

Maurice...check IE7's Internet Options/Connections tab...check LAN settings to see if Automatically detect settings is checked. If it is...uncheck it...save your settings. You may need to close IE7 and re-open it. Then check to see if you can display any pages.Hello Glitch

I have checked and the Lan Settings are not automatically checked!!Clear your Internet cache and try again...Hi Glitch

I've done this previously but to no avail.

Have you tried removing the router from the equation and just connecting through the modem?Hi

I've used the Wireless Network Connection and still have the same problem.Did you try what I said in my PREVIOUS post?

Remove the router from the equation and connect directly through the modem...not the router.Hello Glitch

I tried to connect via the modem, rather than the router, but still had no joy.
