Solve : Can I copy the drivers on my computer to prepare for a new OS install?? |
|
Answer» I just bought a new laptop. It came with Vista Home Premium on it. My IT guy at work says I need Vista Business Edition. I will use the computer in a domain at work. They tell me the Home edition will not connect or something.I believe that is not correct. Compare Windows Vista editions. Quote from: jimpl on August 17, 2008, 08:44:41 PM Oh, what about all the other stuff that came on the machine. I know the Business edition does not support the Media Center stuff, but it came with a web cam and a digital TV tuner, and Blu Ray DVDWhat do you mean by "it came with a web cam and a digital TV tuner, and Blu Ray DVD"? Are you saying it came hardware devices? Of COURSE, that's not true, so you must be talking about features in Windows. And, any of those devices will work with Home Premium. Quote from: jimpl on August 17, 2008, 08:44:41 PM I just saw somewhere else that someone said there is no direct upgrade from Home Premium to Business. Is that true? The Upgrade DVD I bought did not indicate that.Again, I believe that is not correct. I see nothing at Microsoft Windows Vista Business Upgrade w/ SP1By Microsoft which indicates Home Premium can not be directly upgraded to the Business edition. The bottom line: Don't trust your IT guy and verify information you've acquired through hearsay. I have seen in several places now that say the Home Premium Edition is missing some networking stuff that the Business edition has, although that's really mute now. I was really just trying to find out if I will have to reload the other programs and their drivers that are on my laptop. The other things on my machine are a web cam, built into the lid. Built in digital tv tuner, and the Blueray dvd read/writer. I have used the web cam while "Skyping"and I watched TV on my laptop, so I know they came on the machine. I didn't put them there. JimContact the manuf. and order a 64Bit Driver CD for that machine... If it's not available i wouldn't proceed with the install ...i'd save it for another machine. |
