Answer» I got this used Dell notebook Inspiron 8000 a few months ago. I do not have a startup disk. I believe it is running Windows 2000. It ran fine until the other day. Now it is very slow starting up and GETS to the point where Windows is starting up then stops. The SCREEN says "Windows could not start because the following FILE is MISSING or CORRUPT: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM" What can I do from here? Thanks for you help. ChrisNot much without a startup disk... I recommend you contact Dell with the service tag, so you can obtain the recovery software. You're going to need it, eventually. It's relatively inexpensive.
