Solve : Can't get to MS-DOS mode? |
|
Answer» Hi - Are you selecting "restart in msdos mode" from the shutdown menu or "command prompt only" from the boot menu? Can you access the command prompt from inside windows?Quote Can you access the command prompt from inside windows? Not exactly sure what you mean. I've tried the two things I mentioned and that's it. And no, I have not added any software/hardware or made any other changes to the system. Whose machine is this anyways ? ? patio. 8-)In the start menu under accessories there should be some command prompt icon. Also try, start, run and try "CMD" and "command". Quote In the start menu under accessories there should be some command prompt icon. Fwiw: He said he has Win98SE. I'm using Win98SE here. Start->Run-> cmd -> results in 'cannot find ... blah, blah' Start->Run-> command -> results in the good ol' dos window. Quote Hi - Try: Start->Find->Files or Folders In the "Named" box, type command Tell it to search all your hard drives. Post back here, please. Did it find command.com ? Bonus points: If it found command.com and if you double clicked on it, what happened? The error MESSAGE points to permissions which is why i asked whose machine it is... Alas he's gone missing. Quote The error message points to permissions which is why i asked whose machine it is... I saw that too. Wasn't sure what was going on. I THOUGHT permissions would be an XP/NT family thing, not a 98 thing. Oh well... maybe he'll be back. Usually on only at night, home with the flu today. It's my computer, I'm the only user. Did the find w/command, after double clicking got the same "A device attached to the system is not functioning" error message Same error message when I try Start, Run and Command Not sure what you guys mean by "permissions"Have you read the below site and Howto? :-? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/139434 |
