Solve : Can't recognize external hard drive?

Answer»

Hello, I have a 1TB external Hard drive by Maxtor. I used it on a mac computer for a while, and have a lot of data on it, now I have switched to a Windows XP operating system. However the computer won't recognize the hard drive. I tried it on my laptop and it works fine I can access the files(lap top is also a windows XP system) but not on desktop computer. I NEVER had to install any drivers on the lap top for it to work, so I don't KNOW if that would be the reason it doesn't work on the desktop computer. It is connected through a USB 2 port. I have gone to device manager and it does not recognize the hard drive. Would anyone have a SUGGESTION as to what I should try and do to get my computer to recognize my hard drive? Any help is appreciated, thx in advance.
-cLiPYou realise MAC and Windows use 2 different file systems ? ?Yes, but I was ABLE to access the files on my lap top despite thatRight clik My Computer with it hooked up to the desktop and select Manage...then Disk Management...
Right clik the drive and select Properties.
Report back with your findings...It gives me an error.
Logical Disk Manager: The dependency service or group failed to start
...any IDEAS??
