Solve : Can't Reformat help!?

Answer»

I have Vista on my computer RIGHT now.
I greatly dislike it so i went to reformat with Windows xp.
Everything went well until i selected the option to install windows.
I clicked the option to install and an error message came up telling me it failed to detect a hard drive.
Im running the computer right now so my hard drive is not broken.

Dell
Inspiron 1420 laptop
Intel core duo 1.50GHz (2)
2gig ram
Toshiba MK1637GSX 140Gig HDyou cannot switch back to xp just like that.
there are many WAYS to do this, but the easiest 1 are by making the hdd as a slave & format by right clicking it.
then, hook it back as a master, then do the xp install.Do you have a SATA drive? You will have to manually load the SATA drivers.Very early on in the XP SETUP process you will see a prompt at the BOTTOM of the page stating "PRESS F6 to install SATA drivers"...hit F6 at this point and have your driver disk ready.Quote from: kuszmania9999 on September 22, 2007, 02:16:12 AM

Not neccessary. The XP setup CD will do all this for you...
