Answer» One more thing I cannot GET to the support page at microsoft. It is probably better to slipstream SP2 with your XP CD and do a clean install, update and MAKE a basic drive image, and then install your other programs afterwards and make another drive image. One more thing I cannot get to the support page at microsoft. Were you able to get SP2 installed ? dl65 Hi all, thanks for the help. I'm using IE as my browser when I access microsoft support but it just won't let me get there. I've tried Mozilla too. I still haven't been able to get sp 2 working. I tried having a friend download it to his computer so that I could just transfer it to my computer using a flash drive. I was able to get it over to my computer but it never really installed. I looked in my add/remove programs list and there is a bunch of sp 2 stuff but the program never actually ran. What do you think is happening? P.S. I don't remember if I mentioned that my microsoft update wouldn't let me install "microsoft installer 3.1" All sorts of aberrations can happen when SP2 is attempted with spyware/adware present. Make sure your system is clean first!razor1....There are several things that you refered to in an earlier post which keep flashing back as I look at your posts.....Quote I tried to update Norton with an update I bought at Good Guys. NO LUCK!exactly what do you mean a Norton upgrade .....I cant recall ever seeing a program called Norton Update ......or do you mean your Norton Antivirus had expired so you went out and purchased Norton AV 2005 ? Please clarify this point . then you go on to say .... Quote then found out that I can't access any antivirus sites and I can't get into my registry. This would sound like you do in fact have viruses....... Are you currently able to access the registry ? Are you certain that your XP pro O/S is legal........? let us know dl65 Yes I bought a new Norton package and I have successfully installed it after successfully removing a worm. And yes I can now access my registry. But I still can't access Microsoft support. If Big Bill's MS support system thinks you are running an illegal copy of XP, you may or may not be able to get updates for the OS. REGARDLESS, they will not install. There are a lot of reasons why MS may think your copy is illegal (it is illegal, too MANY changes to hardware, not validated/authenticated within a certain time, etc., etc.). If you feel your copy is legal, you can contact MS to make sure it is authenticated. A toll-free number should be listed on the Authentication sticker on your PC or on the original package. Dell |
