Running Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I have enabled the power button both on my case and on my Start menu to enter the PC into Hibernation.
If I use the start menu button, it successfully closes down the computer, then restarts itself i.e. the fan STARTS to whur loudly then the screen is turned back on.
The case button produces the same effect.
I have already entered "powercfg -h on" in CMD and restarted but to no avail.
Has anyone had the same problem as me and has a solution?
Thank you for any helpAhh... I think I know what is happening here. I have an hp pavilion a1400e and the mouse is extremely sensitive, so when I told it to hibernate or STANDBY, it would notice even the slightest movement and turn back on before it even had a chance to standby/hibernate. If you have a laptop, it has to be something different.I think the problem is it restarts instead of going into safe mode. Mine does the same....safe mode?
im assuming you dont have the same problem as me but a parallel one? or am i missing something?Boo,

Enable Hibernation To do this, follow these steps: Open Command Prompt with administrative privileges. In order to do that please follow the "Quickly Open Command Prompt Here in Windows Vista" article. NEXT, type in the following command: powercfg -h on Note: The powercfg command has many interesting options and can be used to automate the CREATION, deletion and configuration of power plans for your computer. Type powercfg /? for extensive help options.

The hybrid sleep feature and the hibernation feature in Windows Vista may become unavailable after you use the Disk Cleanup Tool - 928897 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928897
Did you do a recent Windows Update that included a video driver. If you did try a System Restore to a time before the update. update, i followed the instructions given by billrich, which ESSENTIALLY were the same as i already mentioned...
i forgot that when it restarts after i try to hibernate, the "windows error recovery" screen comes up so i always choose "start windows normally" and it boots with no problem, just without having saved my previous session
