Solve : cannot install latest service pack? |
|
Answer» HI, A few months after I ordered a new Dell (about 3-4 years ago) I picked up some nasty WORM or something. I brought my machine into a shop owned by a friend, and he wiped the HD. He asked for the XP disk but I could not find it. So instead he used a disk he had in the shop, but used my key that was on a tag on the side of the tower. It worked, but since then I haven't been ABLE to install the service packs. I THINK the OS knows the key does not go with the copy used. How do I install the pack?fastjack...... Quote I think the OS knows the key does not go with the copy used. Thats correct . I trust you have found the install /RESTORE cds which would have come with your machine. If you want to be able to be able to D/l the Service Packs you should be able to do one of the following..... Phone MicroSoft and if you can convince them about the guy in the shop thing, they will be able to get you sorted out . If you don't wish to do that , you should back up onto disks whatever you need and then using the original restore/install cds .......... wipe the drive clean and reinstall XP ....... then you will have no problems getting the service packs. dl65 |
