Solve : cannot open streaming files?

Answer»

I have one computer, with win7 os. I do not want to share files with any network. I want to listen to streaming audio with VLC media player(default).how can I do this as in winxp? I cannot open "streaming" files with anything except win media layer, which is not my preferred application.did you open VLC and then try to open streaming files from within? yes, what I want to do is not use win media player as default for anything, at any TIME for any reason. the problem seems to lie in the fact that win7 uses some sort of "sharing"(network, file etc.) I have ONE computer, and am an old curmudgeon, I do not WISH to share anything with anyone at any time. I just want to listen to radio, and WATCH videos, Just like I could in XP!See screenshot below, maybe it'll help you.

thanks for the info about disabling file sharing, but I still can only use win media player. anything (incl. media player classic, and vlc) "cannot render file". I even UNINSTALLED vlc with Revo UNINSTALLER,and after reboot reinstalled VLC---NO LUCK
