Answer» what i try to open my control panel, it says windows has encountered a problem and needs to SHUT down. is there any hope? I have windows re installation CD, but have since ADDED the service pack 2. the control panel is still in parts of the computer, like the C: drive but it still comes up with the same thing.( shutting down)Boot from your Windows CD, choose INSTALL windows, press F8, press R for repair, repair your existing windows installation. Once that's done I suggest going to the Malware/Spyware forum and going through their steps to see if you have an infection that caused the problem initially.Have you tried system RESTORE?
