Answer» Hello. I recently installed a "Topthemes" package. It seemed ok and my av(Kaspersky 7.0) didn't detect any viruses. I did not like the pictures so I removed the program from the Add/Remove in the Control Panel. The problem is that I still have two or three pictures that I can't remove. I am unable to locate these files anywhere . I have followed the steps I found in the forums before I decided to post this. Unfortunately, none of them helped.
I am currently using Windows XP Home Edition SP2. I have an E-Machines T-5026 160G Hard Drive 512k RAM Intel Pentium4 Processor. Kaspersky 7.0 Anti-Virus CWShredder XoftSPYSE.
I am very careful about what I download from the Internet. This is the first time that I am unable to completely remove something. I have thoroughly scanned my computer to MAKE sure that I do not have a virus.
If someone can please help I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance, Riverman What do you mean you are unable to locate them? How do you know they are there if you don't know where they are? If it's saying you can't remove them because they are in use or access is denied you can try rebooting and pressing F8 to get into safe mode. Try removing them from there. It's refreshing to see a well worded post that also contains a good amount of the info we normally wind up asking for...nicely done ! And WELCOME to CH.
The images are probably located in the WinNT folder on C: They should be in the .bmp format so just open whichever image viewer you currently use and navigate to the WinNT folder...there you can open them one by one and safely delete the ones you don't want...
Let us know how it goes...
With third party EYE-candy PROGRAMS it may take some registry editing to get the original boot and Start menu images changed so let us know if this is the case.Thank you for the quick reply. To KBM292, I apologize. I should have mentioned that the images show up when my computer is booting up. To patio, I looked in there and they are not in that file. It may be a registry issue as you mentioned.
Something else I wanted to mention. I noticed when my computer was booting up that a black screen appeared with the option to start Windows two different ways. I have not seen this before (usually I turn it on in the morning and leave the room while it boots up, but I didn't see this before.) Again, thank you for your help. Riverman
Let us know what the options are...Are the options to boot into Windows and the other to boot to the RECOVERY console?KBM,
Yes. I have the option to start Windows XP normally or Restore Windows XP. I also have a message at the bottom of the screen that reminds me to use F8 to safe start. I might add that the picture also shows up at the shutdown where the "Saving Your Settings" screen is.
Thank you again in advance for any help. Hello.... Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this?Well i traveled to the TopThemes site and it seems there are a few of them...as i said with third party eye candy programs there can be alot of different ways to reverse the changes that were made to the system... Can you supply a link to where this theme came from ? ?It took a little digging, but I found the link. http://salvador-dali-wallpaper.en.softonic.com/ Thank you.
