Solve : Cannot set up network with my new vista computer!?

Answer»

I bought a new compaq e2180 desktop with windows vista home premium, 2gb ram 500GB hard drive two weeks ago. I have a laptop and a vonage phone and a dlink switch to connect all three to. This was working with the old xp computer. The new computer will not connect to the internet thru the dlink switch. Please help.Did you USE any sort of Mac Address filtering? Does your D-Link switch provide a dynamic IP address, or do you have to set up a static IP address?

Is the D-Link switch just a modem that connects to, say, cable, satellite, or DSL? Or is there a box/modem before the router?

Is the desktop CONNECTED by a ETHERNET cable, or is it using a Wireless connection?

Did you try using a different ethernet cable, or a different plugin on the switch?

Okay, on the Vista computer, press the Start key (or click the Start menu) and type:
cmd
and press ENTER.

Type:

ipconfig /release

wait for that to finish...

then type:

ipconfig /renew

and wait for that to finish...

See if it works now.
