Solve : CANNOT turn off laptop?

Answer»

HELP!!! I have a Dell Inspiron 1526 that runs on Vista that will not power down. It has a bluish screen only, but will not respond to anything- even closing the screen.

I have tons of work to do today- can anyone help? I should add that I can't get it off of the blank screen either, so it's totally useless.

THANKS for any help you can provide.Disconnect power cord and remove the battery.

This procedure is printed in your manual.. thanks, I'll give that a TRY. I don't have my manual with me at work but it can't be too hard, right?Quote from: pattyhop on December 22, 2008, 12:57:54 PM

Where's IT when you need 'm, eh?

You might want to try pressing the power BUTTON for several seconds first.

If that doesn't work - I'd first disconnect the battery and then the power cord (from the wall socket)Thanks for responding. I tried touching the power button lightly, holding it down for several seconds, everything but punching it with a pen! Anyway, I did take the battery out and that seemed to do the trick. I HOPE that doesn't mean that my battery is losing power.Quote

I am not entirely sure what you mean by that.

Start your laptop up to see if it's functioning like it used to. heh, my used to have to use my old Pentium 133Mhz Toshiba laptop for Programming... ooOo... that was a painful time, but not then, I only realize it when I use that laptop now.

turns out it had bad sectors ( ) which would cause the laptop to FREEZE almost completely at random, requiring me to unplug the AC and battery (although I could leave it sitting for the 5 minutes the battery lasts...).
