Solve : cant boot win xp as my second os?

hi
i got win xp sp3 and i installed vista64 on a separate hd but since then when i try to run the windows xp it keeps saying that there is file missing or corrupted: system32/ntoskrnl.exe.
I tried to EXPAND the file from the installation cd and it didnt help. i tried to rebuild the bootcfg but it failed, im sure the hd should be ok

is it possible to install win xp as dual boot after vista is already installed?

if its not solvable it would be good at least if it were possible to set vista as the only OS and somehow turn of the MENU on the START for choosing the os
