Solve : Cant erase Hard Drive please help?

Answer»

Trying to erase my hard drive and start from scratch. but when I boot into my XP disk and try to delete everything, it says- "partition contains temporary setup files required to complete install of XP" and returns to the previous menu (I've been told to press L but theres no option for it)

thanksWelcome to the CH forums.

How are you trying to delete everything? You should be either deleting partitions, re-partitioning then formatting, or just formatting.

Guidance on doing a clean install of XP, complete with screen output images in the L.pane, are here..

Good luck

Please wait before you erase everything.
What kind of computer do you have?
Why do you want to start over?
Do you want to set the computer back to the original state it had when you bought it? How old is the computer?

The reason I ask is this: Many here are people who build their own computers. Some of the recommendations given are for home-built computers. If he's looking to erase the hard drive chances are he's considered the consequences...
HOWEVER carry on.Quote from: Geek-9pm

Why do you want to start over?

The OP's current OS is listed as Win98/ME, a good enough reason to install XP.

I guess the answer is "No" else he'd be reinstalling Win 98 and/or ME.

Where was that? Did she say her computer is part of LAN with a server?
I was thinking this might be a home computer.

The install CD she has may not be for a regular install of XP the way most of us do it. We need to know what kind of PC she has and what kind of install CD she has. Some systems have to use stuff on the hard drive to do a restore of the system.

What kind of IT course is this? Whose course?
