Everytime I click the "My Computer" icon it opens but SECONDS later I receive this message..."Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience." when i go into the error report it tells me what file is INCLUDED in the error "C:\DOCUME~1\MATT~1.MAT\LOCALS~1\Temp\96c6_appcompat.txt" but the last half is always different (96c6)! what can i do to fix this? i cant get into any of my files i need! please help.....thanksre-boot pc and keep tapping the f8 on boot and CHOSE the last good config....and scan for trojans etc...try an online scan from trendi restarted and pressed F8 and got a list of options: maxtor, WPc, Samsung cd ROM, Song CDRW, Floppy drive, and IBA. not sure what the "last good config" is. at the start of windows XP i get an error that sys that C:\programfiles\wildtangent\apps\CDA\cdaengn0400.dll can not be found or ran or something. its a RUNDLL message. i scanned my comp for viruses last night with mcafee 2004 but didnt find any.Wild Tangent is a Multiplayer program I believe.

Scan for viruses, spyware and trojans.

As for pressing F8 on bootup... Do it when Windows is about to load, you may be pressing too early and entering the BIOS.
