Answer» I have a Gateway 702 GE
Intel Pentium 4 processor 540 Processor - 3.2 GHZ, 800 MHZ FSB, 1 MB L2 cache 250 GB SATA HDD 1024 MB DDR
Digital Media Reader (8-in-1) 2 FIREWIRE (IEEE 1394 ports) 7 USB ports
After getting adware and a virus my system seemed to slow down. I tried alot of stuff to remove them and with help from a friend I did. My system was messed ever since, small errors here and there so I decided to reformat the whole thing. When I tried the restore disk would not boot up. Cd/DVD is first in boot but it gets to the screen just before windows xp loads and SITS and a black screen with nothing until I eject the cd, then Windows will load. The cd was and is in perfect quality I don't even think I had to use it when I BOUGHT the computer, but i figured maybe it was just a bad cd, so I ordered a new one and the exact same thing happened. Games would install halfway then I would get an error message. I could play music cds THO. So I decided to try to reformat it using a windows Xp Pro cd, it reformatted and windows xp loads minus some drivers that are on the restore disks. I try again with the new restore disk and the same thing happens. I stole my brothers burner put it in my drive, same thing. I took his cd drive and put it in mine, same thing. This restore cd just wont boot. If anyone could help me in any way possible that would be amazing and most appreciated , Thanks in advance!!
- Frustrated! If it happened with more than one unit it could be the cable...try a new 80 conductor IDE cable.
