Answer» I have a popup when powering up my computer and my cd/dvd drive doesn't work anymore... It reads:
"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Program: C:\programfiles\DISC\DISCover.exe"
This APPLICATION has requested the runtime to terminate it in an UNUSUAL way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."
I just reformatted my harddrive and reinstalled Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. I then installed Norton 360; then I downloaded Quickbooks Premier 2007 over the internet, then I installed Microsoft Office Pro 2003 by disc. That's the last disc that my computer read. Since then I can't use my cd/dvd drive/burner.Does it work in safe mode? Have you tried going back a few days using the system restore? Disable DISCover.exe from startups through "msconfig".First of all Thank you to all who are trying to help me. I definitely want to figure this problem out rather than buy a whole new computer.
I started in Safe Mode and still could not see my cd/dvd drive. I tried to restore to the point before I installed Microsoft Office. It wouldn't let me.
How do I disable DISCover.exe. I typed msconfig from Run. Where do I go from there??

[Saving space, attachment deleted by admin]I don't actually see any DISCover.exe running. Go to Program FILES folder. Do you have DISC folder there? Does it contain DISCover.exe file?Yes I found it in my program files in the DISC folder. It is an application called DISCover version # 3.33.2005.406 What should I do with it? Will removing it fix my cd/dvd drive? How should I remove it??? Thanks again for the help.Rename DISCover.exe to XDISCover.exe Restart computer.I want to be sure I am describing this DISCover file correctly. There is a program file named DISCover. However it does not have the .exe next to it. When I place the mouse over it, it comes up as" Description: DISCover Drop & Play System Executable" It then says Company: Digital Interactive Systems Corporation.
So I just right click on it and rename it XDISCover.exe and restart my computer
ThanksYes.Thanks again for all of your suggestions
