Answer» Hi All,
Got a problem....when I load a CD/DVD into the drive...nothing happens !! The light comes on for about 15 seconds and then goes off...nothing on the screen of my laptop and no evidence in My Computer that there is a CD/DVD drive at all.....any ideas as to why this could be happening please ?
Thanks..RussHi,
What o/s are you using?
RicharddCheck out this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321641Other options...
Try one of these: 1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 or... 2. http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip or... 3. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. You'll see TWO ITEMS: - ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel) - ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel) Right click on each of them, and click Uninstal. Confirm. Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. Wish I had been smart enough to think of that.Hi..thanks for all of your suggestions...I have tried them all and none of them have worked ! I uninstalled and restarted and still no joy.
Any other help gratefully received.....my o/s is XP.How OLD is this drive ? ? The only way to test if it has failed is to swap it into another MACHINE... Did you re-seat the wide RIBBON cable (IDE) ?
You could try another cable as well...they do go bad sometimes.
Laptop.......DuH ! on me ! !Hi, If your laptop is like my IBM T30, the drive sometime comes unseated. Slide it out, and push it back in and voila!
Richard
Is the drive listed in Device Manager without any errors?
