Solve : CD Not able to swich name and icon?

Answer»

hi guys

My cd rom drive (I/O MAGIC 8X DVD Burner)  seems to be having a problem when i swich cds.  When th computer boots up whatever disc is in is recognized in full (Name, icon, autorun, etc.)  however, when i change discs in the drive, the name, icon, and autorun settings stay the same as the previous disc, presenting a problem for multi-disc software or cd burning (for example, ill boot with halo in the drive.  when i remove halo, the icon, and name stays the same but the disc is read as whatever i just put in.  however if its a cd-r/rw, the protection from  the halo cd is still there too so it wont let me write on it.)

If you need more info plz post what u want and i can get it to you. thank you all so very much.

BTW GO HALO 2 NOV 9  w00tWhat if you eject the CD by right clicking on the CD-ROM drive in question?nope, doesnt appear to help the name or the icon.

o and by the way, Someone2die is Andrew M.Have you tried uninstalling your CD-ROM drive from My Computer -> MANAGE -> Device Manager.

Allowing Windows to redetect may cause it to function properly. No Luck.  Any other things i could try?Did this problem occur recently?

This article may be of use:

CD-ROM DRIVER HELPIve already searched through that.  if someone post a zip file of the drivers that come standard with XP pro i can try that.  I THINK installing cheetah cd burner overides the normal drivers (cause it happened to both me and my friend with xp pro 2 time right after we installed a cheetah product, it just took us this long to figure it out.

if ANYONE could please try and send me the xp professional drivers, i can try to fix it.you have the wixp drivers on your system?and disk...what burning software is use...and a conflict between it and roxio? doe this happen with all disks or just media disks? Quote

you have the wixp drivers on your system?

My Guess at what happened is the software (CHEETA cd/dvd burner) came with burning/generic cd drivers, which are older versions that the ones i have.  it didnt care about dates, over wrote the newer ones, and messed up windows xp pro.

...and a conflict between it and roxio (part of wmp)?

It is mainly, as i said,  a problem with the icon, title, and autorun.  I unistalled the software after getting fairly mad at it and reallizing it was what was screwing me up (or so i think.)  didnt leave it installed long enough to find out if it conflicted with any other programs.

does this happen with all disks or just media disks?

media discs being games and such?  i had assumed all discs held some sort of media
But anyway, yes, it does not swith the title/icon for all discs (games, dvds, music, and whatnot)

As i said above, if anyone can send me the standard drivers for windows xp PROFESSIONAL i can try some stuff to fix this.  THANKSnot all cd/rw contain media...some are just burnt as data..what happens if you untick auto run...have you looked on the combo drive manufactors site for a reg patch...like  i have stated why do you need winxp drivers when you have the disk...if anything your problem lies with windows explorer and you should consider this>> Important: Windows XP Professional supports only those devices
listed in the HCL. If your hardware isn't listed, contact
the hardware manufacturer and request a Windows XP Professional
driver for the component. To ensure that programs using 16-bit
drivers function properly afterwards, request 32-bit drivers
     from the software vendor. Quote

O I see you mean media as in music etc.  I  considered data to be a form of media, but whatever works.

what happens if you untick auto run...

Nothing different

have you looked on the combo drive manufactors site<cheeta> for a reg patch

cheetah makes the software i downloaded that screwed up my drive.  I/O Magic are the makers of my drive and i couldnt find anything on their site

like  i have stated why do you need winxp drivers when you have the disk

I loaned it to a friend of mine who couldnt find his copy so he could reformat.

By the Way, what is the HCLhave you tried the refresh option...when you load a difference disk? the hcl is ...hardware compatibilty list...reviews>http://www.driverzone.com/viewcomment.php?company=I/O%20Magic&masterid=323 Quote

didnt seem to help much.  Thank you though
Thats another reason i dislike winxp....you have ditch hardware thats incompatible ....as msoft way to screw the hardware manufactors if they dont play ball with them...and also software programs...but msoft cant take all the credit i suppose its all depends how the system is slung together...*end of rant*the test kit didnt work.  it kept getting stuck on my cf drive.  then it would say one of the files that came with the test program were corrupt.  any thing else i could try???
