Solve : CD R &R/W DRIVES SUDDENLY NOT WORK? |
|
Answer» I'm NEW here and not a computer WIZ so please help if you can. when I go to hardware directoryDevice Manager? Any errors there? When I try to troubleshoot the READ drive, Code 31 comes up. "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)". Same for the R/W drive. Does that tell you anything? I'm in the dark. IBoth used to work fine. Thanks for helping. DFTry these: 1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 2. http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip 3. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. You'll see TWO items: - ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel) - ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel) Right click on each of them, and click Uninstal. Confirm. Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled. Thanks, Broni, for the help. I followed your instructions, new hdw was found and all, and I restarted, but they still don't work. Note says no CD drives on this computer. I updated drivers but it said both were current - updated them anyway - restarted - still don't work. When I open My Computer icon the drives do no show ( as D & E, as they did before this problem). Any other ideas? Really appreciate your help. DFDid you try all three possible solutions, already? No, just #3, as time is running out on me. We go out of town in the morning for a couple of weeks and I will have to come back to this when I return. Meanwhile, at the other location on another computer I will study ! and 2 and make notes. I sorta thought #3 was a summary of the others. NOT? Thanks and I'll be back Jan 27. DFNo, it wasn't. Have a nice trip. |
