Solve : CD reading but not running?

Answer»

Hi everyone,

I've just received my start up pack to connect my broadband at home. I'm running XP pro on a pretty new machine that's never had any problems reading or displaying disks correctly before but when I put my broadband disk in it wouldn't run. It starts to auto-play but never gets past the INITIAL white screen, I've explored the CD contents and there doesn't seem to be anything I can run other than the auto-run application, I tried the disk in my work pc this morning (an older machine on win 2k) and it booted up straight away with no problems. I have absolutely no idea what's causing the problem or how to resolve it so any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!Check it in Explorer...is there a "setup.exe" on there ...if so you can just double click this and it should work.
Sounds like that lens on the CD unit is dirty. Quote

Yeah I checked that and unfortunately there isn't one which I thought was a bit strange. The only thing that resembles a set up file is the same application that auto-runs.

I think the CD unit's ok, It quite happily reads, RIPS and burns all of my other CDS and DVDs without any problems. The only thing I could think of as a possibility is that it could have something to do with my system security(?) as I remember being asked by my Active X controller whether or not I wanted to allow an interaction on an information page that my disk defragger brought up. I've had no such prompt for this CD but the window it starts up in looks familiar. Just a thought anyway, if that is the case I have no idea how to change it!

Thanks for your reply anyway*Bump* Because I still have no idea how to sort this!CONTACT your broadband ISP about this.  Be sure to tell them your DVD-RW drive works fine for other tasks, as you've said here.  Keep badgering them until you get this resolved.  Yeah I'll give that a go. I'm still trying anything I can thing of to MAKE it work but so far no luck! Thanks for the reply. If you do a search on PPPoE you might be able to set it up without the providers bloated software...i set mine up minus the Yahoo garbage as i didn't want or need it. Works fine.
