Answer» I have a compaq presario model 7471 running windows 98 se that I received second-hand. Recently, I used the compaq quick restore cd to restore the opc to the manufacturer's state. After doing so, I attempted to use the cd-rom drive only to receive a message stating that no cd-rom was detected. I also received another message stating no scsi host adapter was found.
How can I restore the cd-rom ? I've checked the device manager listings and there's no cd-rom listed in device manager. Why windows isn't detecting the cd-rom is a puzzle to me. I'm a NOT tech head so please keep it simple !TAKE a look on that Compaq CD for Atapi drivers...you might have to copy them to floppy and or e-mail them to the machine.

patio. 8-)What about "Add New Hardware" in control panel?
Win98SE should have just what you need unless it is some very esoteric drive.

I'll give that a try ! A friend told me that it's possible the connectors have become loose. He suggested that I open the case and reseat the cables as they may be loose. Always the first step for any hardware malfunction. However if you loaded Windows with that drive......
