Solve : CD-Rom Drives not showing up?

Answer»

when i click on "my computer" it doesn't show my CD burner or my DVD drives.
I noticed it shortly after i used the "Tweak UI" program, but it may have happened before and i didn't notice.
Any clues how to fix this? The cd drive SEEN in setup mode
Are they visible in Device manager?
If you don't know how to access device manager do the following.
Right click My Computer and select properties.
Select the Hardware tab and press Device Manager.
Are there anything listed under "DVD/CD-ROM drives"?
If yes, is there a yellow exclamation mark or red X on the devices? Quote from: Deerpark on July 28, 2007, 04:14:45 AM

they are both listed under "DVD/CD-ROM drives" but they both have yellow exclamation points next to them.Right click them and select remove/Uninstall...
Re-boot and Windows will automatically re-install them...then check to see if the yellow ex. marks are gone.check your upper and lower filters in the regestry.
i had this problem before.
search microsoft support.

i uninstalled them and restarted my computer and still have the same problem. i then tried to update driver and it cant find one so i tried to roll back the driver and that doesnt work either. If it's anything newer than Win98SE then drivers are not neccessary...course we don't know that yet. http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htmtweakUI has a "hide drive LETTER(s)" feature. You could make sure that any drive letters which are unchecked, ("unticked" in UK English) that is, hidden, are not letters which BELONG to your vanished drives.

To make sure, you could check (tick) every letter from A to Z.

i did run that idea and i got the message "Resolve CD access problem. The UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values that can cause CD access problems do not exist on your computer." Quote from: contrex on July 29, 2007, 07:30:39 AM

i went in and made sure everything is checked and it is.Are they IDE drives or SATA? If they are IDE, are they both on the same IDE channel? Check that the ribbon cable is firmly plugged into the drives and the motherboard. Also the power connectors.

How old is the motherboard?

Have you recently installed or uninstalled any burning software?
