Solve : CD- ROM Help please !!!?

Answer»

I have win 98 SE.

I went to control panel to remove WMP from my PC and when I restarted the PC, my CD-DVD Rom drive (D drive) and CD-RW drive (E drive) are gone !!! Now if I wanna pop a CD to listen to music, I can't find the D or E drive. I go to "My computer" and there is no CD drive to be found. I went to start, programs, accessores, entertainment, CD-Player and it says "there is no CD-Rom drive attached to this PC". Wha

So how did I lose my D and E drives simply by removing WMP ? BTW the reason why I wanted to remove WMP was because it started acting up ever since I downloaded an update that flashed on my screen when I was playing music. May be that was in fact a virus I downloaded ?

LADOC.......What  virus scanner do you have installed ?

LET us know

dl65  Get on the internet and go to http://microsoft.com  ... Click on WINDOWS Update... Next, click on custom install... Wait until the page loads, and then install ALL updates that you see... If there are none, then let us know... This SHOULD fix your problem...

LOL rolleyes ? I know I know...I shoulda included that in the post. I have NAV which I haven't updated in about a year as I thought it was too expensive to SUBSCRIBE to annual subscription.

But guess what ? This morning I started my PC and to my amazement I saw the C and D drives show up. But wait my PC just tried to crash as I am typing this. The draded "click any key to continue" screen. I got that and somehow it didn't crash... YET !
Wow. Let me tell you something.... YOU MUST HAVE VIRUS PROTECTION! If not, then that's the END of your computer.

[glb]Flame[/glb]at the msdos prompt type scanreg/restore and answer yes to the SPLASH screen...then chose the last good cab file...
