Solve : Change default number of system restore points??

Answer»

I've read that XP's default for saved System RESTORE Points is 90. Is there are way to change this to say 20?

THANKS.I don't know of a way to change the number of restore points, but in Control Panel - System - System Restore you can change the amount of space RESERVED for system restore on a per drive basis, or turn it off entirely if you wish.
Hope this helps.Yes, I am aware of that, but I'm guessing that as the article I was reading used the word "default", then it may IMPLY that it can be changed to a non-default number, unless of cause the author has just used that word while taking into consideration the amount of space that a user allocates for restore points.

Maybe the default number can be changed in Windows registry?

PERHAPS someone with greater knowledge on the subject can provide an answer.

Thanks for your reply. You can remove any points you don;t need.Yes, but that's tedious. Aren't computers supposed to help reduce repetitive tasks like that by doing them according to a schedule or to a script? There is no "default number" of restore points, only how much space is allotted to system restore. Exactly! If you want to wipe out your Restore Points run the cleanup below.Once you click Disk Cleanup it will take you to another screen where you can click on More Options. There you can remove all but your latest Restore Point.

Click Start> Computer> right click the C Drive and choose Properties> enter
Click Disk Cleanup from there.

Click OK on the Disk Cleanup Screen.
Click Yes on the Confirmation screen.

This runs the Disk Cleanup utility ALONG with other selections if you have chosen any. (if you had a lot System Restore points, you will see a significant change in the free space in C drive)
