Solve : Change Name of DVD Drive in My Computer?

Answer»

I want to change the name of my DVD Drive in My Computer and I've FOUND this information on how to do it

"Copy and paste the CODE below into notepad.

CODE
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\X]
=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\X\DefaultLabel]
="CHANGE DRIVE LABEL HERE"

Once in notepad, change the two "X" values to the drive letter you want to change. (eg. DriveIcons\E)

Now change "CHANGE DRIVE LABEL HERE" to whatever you want to label to say (eg. My Backup)

SAVE the file to your desktop, and give it any name, and a .reg EXTENSION. (eg. Backup.reg)

Now go to your desktop and double click the file. It will ask to merge, say yes.

log off and back on (or restart)"

I've tried doing this, but whenever I get to the part where merge the newly created registry file, I get the error that the file is not a valid registry script and I can only import binary registry files. Any ideas? What are you trying to change it from and two and how did it get this way? Has it ever been as you are trying to arrange it? Any reason for wanting to reassign a drive letter? Be careful with that registry!  No, I know how to change the drive letter, I'm trying to change the actual name. For example from DVD-RW Drive to Plextor. I've never had it this way before, but supposedly adding this to the registry allows for this change. Thanks.Right-Click on drive, click Properties. Change the label as you see fit. No messy regedit-ing. Can't do it that way..... the properties menu doesn't let me change the name that way. the box is there, but I can't type anything in it.Whats The Point In Doing that??? id Just Stick with standard Lettering that's fine, then YOU can stick with standard lettering. i however would like to change it, mainly to make it easier to tell between multiple drives.I wouold love to be able to do this in my computer. I can change the name of feverything else there. BUT for some stupid reason microsoft DIDNT give us the ability to do so...darn U micro darn uuu.

i think i should take over microsoft better yet the worlldddddwell supposedly that registry script will let you... i'm just not sure how to enter the script into my registry.kk, well i got it to work... not sure why it didn't work b4, but here's what i did:

open up notepad, copy this code into it and change the X to the drive letter and enter in whatever name you want:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\X\DefaultLabel]
="Desired Name of Drive"

now save this as a .reg file and the run it. thanks.
