Solve : Changeing my New Drives letter to C:\?

Answer»

Hi all, need some help / advice please.

Just bought a new hard drive and now want to install Windows on new drive, cause the new Hard drive is much faster. But I all ready have Windows installed on other drive. Can anyone tell me how does one get the new drive to be assigned as the C: Drive...

Basically want to Install Windows on my newer faster Hard drive and have it assigned as my main C:\ Drive and then copy my Stuff back from my Old main drive and that can then be assigned another letter. DRIVES needs to swop places basically.

I thought about, unplugging all other SATA drives and then INSTALLING Windows to new drive, which will then be C:\ but now IM not sure, what will happen when I plug my old hard drive back, don't want to lose any data on the old drive or take the chance of corrupting the old drives file system

Any help will greatly be appreciated. THANKSI think your main HD is always the C : drive. You can't change it. I may be wrong. If you do a clean install of Windows to a brand new HDD it will automatically become C:
In order to do this properly any other drives should be disconnected.
Once the clean install is done you can re-introduce your older drive...if SATA it should be connected to SATA port 3 or 4 on your MBoard so it's no longer seen as a boot device...
You can then SAFELY copy/move any data you need to the new C: drive.
